UNO's Wolf, McNeese's Famous Named SLC Track and Field Athletes of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Sophia Wolf of New Orleans and Sakari Famous of McNeese earned the Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week awards as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week: Sophia Wolf, New Orleans – Middle Distance - Gr. – Bensheim, Germany
Sophia Wolf followed up her incredible opening weekend by breaking her second school record in two weeks after finishing her 800M at the Samford Invitational in 2:08.71. Her time was four seconds faster than UNO's indoor 800M record set 23 years ago, and two seconds faster than the school's current outdoor 800M record. At the time of completion she ranked No. 2 in the South Central Region, and No. 16 in the NCAA. The time would have won every Southland indoor 800M championship since 1988, is the the fifth fastest time in Southland history (in any meet), and is seven seconds faster than the next closest 800M time in the Southland this season.

Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week: Sakari Famous, McNeese – Jumps - R-Sr.. – Pembroke, Bermuda
Sakari Famous won the high jump at the Samford Invitational with a mark of 5-9.25. Her mark of 1.76 is still above the rest of the conference while not being her season best. Famous holds the 22nd best NCAA mark so far this season at 1.76m.
