FRISCO, Texas – Jeny Barcenas and Sakari Famous of McNeese earned the Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week awards as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week: Jeny Barcenas, McNeese – Distance - Fr. – Bucaramanga, Columbia
Freshman Jeny Barcenas earned the SLC Women's Track Athlete of the Week award for the first time this season. Barcenas placed 1st in the 3,000m at the McNeese Indoor II with a time of 9:45.70, which ranks her No. 1 in the Southland Conference.
Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week: Sakari Famous, McNeese – Jumps - R-Sr. – Pembroke, Bermuda
Sakari Famous earned her second SLC Women's Field Athlete of the Week by claiming the school record in the high jump at 5-11.25 to finish 1st at the McNeese Indoor II. That mark is the 5th-best all-time in SLC history and is currently ranked No. 24 in the nation.
