SAN ANTONIO, Texas – First seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, second seed McNeese and sixth seed Northwestern State won quarterfinal matches on Friday to advance to the semifinal round of the 2024 Southland Conference Women’s Tennis Championships at the McFarlin Tennis Center.
(1) TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI 4, (9) BRYANT 0
The Islanders won the doubles point with wins on both the first and second courts. Palina Saulevich and Ana Veroux defeat Bryant's Mari Jose Hernandez Diaz and Yahli Noy (6-3) at No. 2. Emma Aucagne and Naomi Moi McKenzie take down Caitlyn Munson and Natalia Vela (7-5) at No. 1.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Valeria Cherfus wins (6-1, 6-1) against Mari Jose Hernandez Diaz at No. 4, Emma Aucagne defeats Natalia Vela at No. 1 and Kateryna Rublevska secures the win versus Olivia Rondini (6-4, 6-2) at No. 6.
After defeating Bryant 4-0, the Islanders advance to face fourth seed McNeese at 10 a.m. Saturday in the semifinal round.
(4) NEW ORLEANS 1, (5) UIW 4
The Privateers made the first move when Laurie Barendse and Ksenia Reznitskaya defeated Estefania Gonzalez and Ine Lamprecht (6-1) at No. 2. The Cardinals answered back seizing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
Isid Hernandez Leon and Sofia Franco Salcedo defeat Tristanne Dechoux and Anastassia Kouchnareva (6-4) at No. 1, securing the Cardinals the doubles point.
UIW closed out the Privateers with an impressive showing in singles matches. Estefania Gonzalez downed Anastassia Kouchnareva (6-3, 2-6, 6-0) at No. 2. Ine Lamprecht defeated Katery Kalistratova (6-3, 6-2) at No. 4. New Orleans' Ksenia Reznitskaya beat McKenzy Byfield (6-1, 7-5) at No. 5 to earn the Privateers their only singles point. UIW's Isid Hernandez Leon took down Tristanne Dechoux (6-0, 6-2) at No. 3 to clinch the match for the Cardinals.
New Orleans meets first seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 10 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals.
(2) MCNEESE 4, (10) NICHOLLS 0
The Cowgirls earned the doubles point with wins on both the first and third courts. McNeese's Ai Domingo-Bernabeu and Tiana Fox take down Dareen Hassan and Sophia Sara Safarova (6-1) at No. 3. Anastasija Adeikyte and Arina Gamretkaia defeat Carla Bouygues and Constanza Cruz (6-2) at No. 1 to secure the doubles point for McNeese.
Cowgirl Emma-Lou Pommiers downs Adda Inna (6-2, 6-1) at No. 4. Nicholls' Dareen Hassan falls to Ari Monlleo Sanchis (6-2, 6-4) at No. 6. Maria Wang Martinez clinches the match, beating Noemie Piquet (6-1, 6-3) at No. 5.
After defeating Nicholls 4-0, the Cowgirls advance to face sixth seed Northwestern State at 9 a.m. Saturday in the semifinal round.
(3) NJIT 1, (6) NORTHWESTERN STATE 4
Demons Tjasa Klevisar and Honoka Umeda win against Irene Cocero and Laura Wipfli (6-3) at No. 1 to earn Northwestern State their first doubles point. At No. 3 Sara Erenda and Paige Wise down NJIT's Pa Menendez Alvarez and Shalom Salv to secure the doubles point in favor of the Demons.
Northwestern State's Maria Farina defeats Sandra Dzhambazov (6-3, 6-2) at No. 2. The Demons continue their roll when Sofi Garcia wins against Shalom Salvi (6-3, 6-2) at No. 4. The mach is clinched when Honoka Umeda downs Irene Cocero (6-1, 7-5) at No. 5.
After beating NJIT 4-1, the Demons move on to face second McNeese at 9 a.m. Saturday in the semifinal round.
