FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Khatevi and McNeese's Jaslyn Russell have earned this week's Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week honor, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. This is Russell's second honor of the season.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Elizabeth Khatevi, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi – Distance - So. – Kenya
Khatevi competed in the 1500m last weekend, doing so at both the Texas Relays in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos. At the former on Thursday, she took home the individual championship in the A-section of the meet, crossing the line with a time of 4:24.82. Just one day later at the Bobcat Inviational, she then improved greatly on this mark, shaving off more than seven seconds with a time of 4:17.03 that earned her another first place finish. This broke her own school record of 4:21.47 set at last year's Bryan Clay Invitational as well as both the Bobcat Invitational meet record and the Texas State Track & Field Complex facility record, all in one race. In addition, this time currently ranks 38th in all of Division I and first in the Southland.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Jaslyn Russell, McNeese – Throws - Sr. – Oakdale, La. - Oakdale HS
Russell earned three wins at the SFA Carl Kight Invite in the shot put, discus and hammer, which were all also personal bests. She threw 50-10.75 in the shot put to win the event and moving into the No. 1 spot in the Southland, 33rd in the NCAA East and 49th in the NCAA. In the discus, she threw 167-4, which ties her for third in the Southland and 33rd in the NCAA East. Her 177-3 mark in the hammer is 3rd in the league.
